On Your Doorstep Industry Food Tour - North Wexford

Taste Wexford and some of food tourism business operators from the North Wexford region came together to experience an ‘On Your Doorstep Food Tour’. The food tour was offered to businesses who are participating in the Taste Wexford Immersive Training Programme, to get a chance to have a tour around another business and see what their experience is and listen to their story.

On Friday 18 November, a group of people embarked on a food tour with Lorraine O’Dwyer and Anthony O’Toole. The food tour started at Ashdown Park Hotel, then onto Bean & Goose, followed by Tara Hill Honey and finishing at Salt Rock Dairy.

All these businesses are offering, or about to offer, a food tourism experience.

Ashdown Park Hotel

First stop on the tour was Ashdown Park Hotel where everyone met the general manager Paul Finnegan who hosted the tour. The hotel is located in Gorey town, a 5-minute walk into the town centre. Beef and vegetables come from their own Redmond Farm just 15-minutes drive away, which feature on all their menus from the restaurant to the bar to the many events they host on a weekly basis.

As well as working with more local producers to supply their restaurants, they are working on offering a range of farm tours and beef experiences throughout the year.

Bean & Goose

Inspired by Ireland’s landscape, designers and makers, sisters Karen and Natalie Keane, create exciting chocolate that tells the contemporary Irish story.

As well as strengthening their very popular chocolate workshops at their beautiful chocolate factory in Gorey town, Karen and Natelie are looking at offering half day to full-day chocolate experiences at the original home of Bean and Goose.

Tara Hill Honey

Anne and Michael Wildes look after over 150 hives in North Wexford, Wicklow and Dublin that produce a range of honey that captures the taste of the Irish countryside.

Anne and Michael are looking at offering a range of events and workshops from a simple tour and tasting through their range of honeys to a full day education workshop on beekeeping.

Salt rock Dairy

From their coastal dairy farm, where cows graze the sea banks of Saleen Beach, Catherine and Paul Kinsella sell their non-homogenised milk through self-service vending trailer around North Wexford.

As well as offering flavoured milk experience already on the farm and popping up throughout North Wexford, Catherine is working on designing Salt Rock Supper Clubs that will take place on her farm as well as going on tour around the county!

The design and coordination of this food tour was supported by Visit Wexford and Wexford Local Development through the LEADER Programme 2014-2020.
