Michelin Guide 2021: Table Forty One awarded a Bib Gourmand

Following a challenging year for the hospitality industry, there was exciting news for County Wexford on Monday evening (January 25) as the 2021 Michelin Guide was released. The awards were announced in a new format this year through an online ceremony streamed from London and Paris via YouTube and Twitter.

Just before the Michelin Star announcements, Table Forty One in Gorey was among four new restaurants in Ireland that were awarded a prestigious Bib Gourmand. Goldie in Cork, Spitalfields and Volpe Nera in Dublin, and Table Forty One were among 16 new restaurants to be awarded Bib Gourmands in the Michelin Guide to Great Britain and Ireland 2021. They join 110 other restaurants that are deemed to have “good quality, good value cooking” by Michelin. View all the Bib Gourmands on the Michelin Guide website here.

Chef Andrew Duncan opened Table Forty One on Gorey’s main street in 2018 with the ambition to showcase Wexford’s producers and local foraged ingredients at its best. A huge fan of cooking with the seasons, his menus are small with just three to four choices on each course, but it changes often. Andrew really enjoys offering an approachable and personalised fine dining experience in a relaxed style. Expect classics with a modern contemporary twist to them.

“Having worked in various hotels and restaurants around the world, Gorey native Andrew Duncan has returned home to open this cosy, welcoming restaurant: a new entry in the 2021 guide. The wine list is short yet well-priced and the concise seasonal menu offers classic, technically adept dishes with a great balance of texture and flavour; perhaps a French onion tart with goat’s cheese, candied walnuts and crispy kale; or confit duck leg with apple, spiced red cabbage and a blackberry jus.”

County Wexford now has two restaurants with Bib Gourmands as Aldridge Lodge in Duncannon retained their Bib for the fourteenth year! Two other restaurants are recognised by Michelin Guide 2021 in Wexford with their Plate award; La Côte in Wexford town, and The Duck Restaurant at Marlfield House in Gorey.

Congratulations to all teams at these restaurants in Wexford. Each plays an important role in presenting the region as a premier food tourism destination.
