Grass Roots Tour - 3 Magical Farms in rural Wexford

Join Lorraine from Gallivanting.ie on a a Magical 3 farm rural Wexford - Grass Roots tour. The tour begins at Goreys Train Station just as the Dublin Train arrives. Here Lorraine will be waiting to greet you. And your story will begin. Visiting Wild About, Dots Plots Donkey Rehoming hub, and Salt Rock Dairy.

What’s Included?

  • Seasonal tastings of chutneys, jams and 500ml sparkling nettle drink at Wildabout.ie

  • Taste Wexford organic cotton socks

  • A seasonal farmhouse lunch, showcasing local farmers and producers. (Bread and butter made fresh by Catherine - Salt Rock Dairy)

  • 500ml glass bottle of milk (choice of flavoured or not)

  • Transport from Gorey around the farms and back.


The first stop,

Wild About, an IFWG (Irish Food Writers’ Guild) Award Winner and Blás an hEireann Supreme Champion, to meet the makers, Fiona Falkoner and her husband, Malcolm. In recent years, Wild About has expanded its range of jams, chutneys, pestos and jellies to include sparkling nettle drink.

A short walk down the road to,

Meet Jodie, owner of Dots Plots Donkey Rehoming Hub. This is where much of Fiona’s waste nettles end up as food for the Donkeys. Where you will fall in love with the donkeys while Jody talks about how she rehilibrates the donkeys before they find their forever home.

A short drive through the countryside to,

Salt Rock Dairy to meet Catherine Kinsella who will welcome everyone into her home. Before we explore the farm with Catherine, we will be sitting down at her table to enjoy a gorgeous traditional farmhouse lunch, think boiled eggs, freshly baked bread, yogurt, and butter straight from the dairy, and lots more to enjoy. You won't leave the table hungry. The group will then get a tour of the beautiful dairy farm known for selling milk directly to locals through its traveling vending machines.

The end of the day,

There is an optional choice to visit Goreys Main street to make a stop at Wexfords oldest grocer to pick up some locally made chocolate, cordials, bacon, jam.... or into Frenches Pub, the oldest Pub in Wexford, said to have the best Guinness outside of James Gate.
